Katherine Cowley is the author of The Secret Life of Miss Mary Bennet series and teaches writing at Western Michigan University.
It is a truth universally acknowledged that if you wish to write well, you should learn from the best of writers. In other words, you should learn from Jane Austen.
This interactive virtual workshop will help you apply Jane Austen’s storytelling techniques to your own writing. We will consider how she constructs compelling plots, creates character transformation, uses challenges and obstacles to craft scenes, and makes and keeps promises to her readers. Throughout the workshop, there will be individual and group writing exercises to practice applying these principles, so make sure to have a pen, paper, and your laptop ready!
This workshop will be led by Katherine Cowley. Her novel The Secret Life of Miss Mary Bennet was nominated for the Mary Higgins Clark Award and was a finalist for the Whitney Award for Best Mystery/Suspense novel. She is also the author of The True Confessions of a London Spy and The Lady’s Guide to Death and Deception. Katherine teaches writing classes at Western Michigan University and writes the award-winning blog Jane Austen Writing Lessons.
